Tamashii Nations Movie Realization Series: Samurai General Darth Vader

 

 This is something really exciting, and I have been really excited to share it with you all. Now that the semester is over and I have some time before summer classes begin, I finally have a chance.

The Tamashii Nations Movie Realization Series is a general series of figures depicting Star Wars and Marvel characters in a feudal Japanese style. Wild, I know. They are generally pretty well jointed and capable of easy posing, and are incredibly highly detailed. They are approximately 8” tall, and come with a load of extra hands and accessories.

Star Wars: The Black Series Darth Vader (Rogue One)

 

Semester’s over! As of yesterday, all that remains is a bit of paper grading and it’ll officially be that wonderful break between Spring and Summer classes, a couple weeks of sleeping (relatively) late and having fun and feeling like a real human again. I am still working my way through a whole lot of figures that need to be photographed, and have almost exhausted my stockpile of pictures taken at our old apartment, so these new photo sessions are becoming more and more necessary. It occurred to me that out of the 36 articles posted to the Coffin thus far in 2018, only 6 of them (6!) have been about Star Wars figures, and there have been a number of Star Wars figures acquired since 2018 began. Gotta do something about that, man.

Star Wars: Elite Series Darth Vader

The Elite Series purports to be a high end collection of Star Wars figures, aimed at collectors. These are not toys, and are not action figures in the normal sense of the term. Sold at Disney Stores and limited to a handful of characters, the Elite Series seems to be mainly movie tie in merchandise, and is perhaps Disney’s first original entry into the vast Star Wars merchandise universe.

Star Wars: The Black Series: Emperor’s Wrath Darth Vader

What Imperial collection is complete without Darth Vader? This figure is the second Black Series Vader that has come along, and is quite an interesting entry to the line.

A head-scratchingly bizarre Walgreens exclusive figure, Emperor’s Wrath Vader is a figure of the final moments of the Luke/Vader/Emperor battle at the end of Return of the Jedi, after Luke has cut off Vader’s hand and after Vader has thrown the Emperor down the Death Star shaft. Oh, geez, sorry. I probably should have dropped a “spoiler alert” there before I blabbed away. The helmet is a translucent purple, replicating the literal frame of the movie where the Force lightning allows us to see the skull beneath Vader’s helmet. Very, very cooly, the right hand is also removable, and the wrist has some painted wires and stuff, meant to replicate a severed robotic wrist.
