Tamashii Nations Movie Realization Series: Samurai General Darth Vader

This is something really exciting, and I have been really excited to share it with you all. Now that the semester is over and I have some time before summer classes begin, I finally have a chance.

The Tamashii Nations Movie Realization Series is a general series of figures depicting Star Wars and Marvel characters in a feudal Japanese style. Wild, I know. They are generally pretty well jointed and capable of easy posing, and are incredibly highly detailed. They are approximately 8” tall, and come with a load of extra hands and accessories.

Warbotron WB01-A Air Burst

So, Warbotron is apparently the name of the company; I’d always thought that Warbotron was the name of the combined mode, a fitting replacement for Bruticus. But apparently that’s not the case, as Warbotron also has its name on a set of Technobots. While I do not wish to dwell on this confusion, it has been a point of confusion for me. The combined form apparently has no distinct name, so we've got to go with Warbotron Bruticus here.

Star Wars: The Black Series Darth Vader (Rogue One)

Semester’s over! As of yesterday, all that remains is a bit of paper grading and it’ll officially be that wonderful break between Spring and Summer classes, a couple weeks of sleeping (relatively) late and having fun and feeling like a real human again. I am still working my way through a whole lot of figures that need to be photographed, and have almost exhausted my stockpile of pictures taken at our old apartment, so these new photo sessions are becoming more and more necessary. It occurred to me that out of the 36 articles posted to the Coffin thus far in 2018, only 6 of them (6!) have been about Star Wars figures, and there have been a number of Star Wars figures acquired since 2018 began. Gotta do something about that, man.

FansHobby Master Builder MB-05 Flypro

A new company around these parts, FansHobby’s Master Builder series appears to be a pretty serious effort at producing Masterpiece-tier figures of some real underrepresented characters, yet doing so in fairly simplified forms but including die cast metal in the construction. They’ve released a few G2 Optimus Prime-based figures, but what catches my eye are these Monsterbots. Taking a dive into both the company and the line and the subgroup, the first one to enter the Coffin collection is Flypro, known in the G1 continuity as Grotusque.

TFC Toys Poseidon: Big Bite

I feel like the best way to begin this article is by being completely honest: I do not care about Skalor at all. I don’t care about him as a character; I don’t care about him as a figure. I hate his beast mode. I hate his little tech spec story about being a disgusting, filthy guy. I don’t like anything about Skalor. But, I really like Big Bite, the TFC Toys Skalor-alike.

MakeToys MTCM-03B Celeritas

Celeritas is the second in the line of the MakeToys Technobots, and presents a really different and pretty exciting take on Lightspeed, who was always arguably the lamest and least interesting of the G1 team. In Lightspeeds’ Dreamwave More Than Meets the Eye bio, it is mentioned that Lightspeed dreams of giving up his future space car alt mode in favor of some kind of flying alt mode; see, Lightspeed is so dull that he doesn’t even want to be Lightspeed.

TFC Toys Poseidon: Cyber Jaw

The second of the unofficial Seacons, Cyber Jaw has a lot to live up to following Mentarazor, and it does so pretty easily. This figure will also be the base of the next two Seacon figures, so hopefully, it is a good toy all on its own.

Coffin Shakers: W.A.S.P., Reidolized (The Soundtrack to the Crimson Idol)

It’s been awhile since we’ve talked about music around here. The last Mass Burial wrapped up in December, and I was hoping to get another one together during my move, thinking that would allow me to keep blogging without the ancillary components of action figures and pictures and time. Well, that didn’t pan out, as I couldn’t decide on a band to examine. But now it is spring, and the weather is finally starting to change for the spring-like, at the end of April. Spring always brings a young mans’ heart back to rock and roll.
